Panchkula was constituted as a district on 15-8-1995 and was formed by merging
kalka Tehsil. Panchkula district boundaries are extended across Tehsils of
Panchkula, Kalka, Raipur Rani, (Parwanoo Baddi, Nalagarh of District Solan
Himachal Pradesh), (Mani Majra, Mouli Jagran of U.T Chandigarh), Baltana,
Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Mubarakpur of Punjab and Naraingarh of district.
The Panchkula district now comprises two Sub Divisions Panchkula and Kalka and
two Tehsils Panchkula, Kalka and one Sub Tehsil Raipur Rani. It has a population
of 6 lakhs. Panchkula district is represented by 1 Assembly Constituency namely
Kalka.
The Panchkula district is a very strategically located and serves as a gateway
to Haryana for States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, J&K and U.T. Chandigarh.
2 National highways (N.H.22 and NH 73) pass through the district. N.H.-22 passes
through the district and link to Shimla and beyond right upto China border.

The Kalka is an important Railway Station of district Panchkula which is
historic Ambala-Kalka-Shimla railway line date back to 1889.
The Pinjore Airforce Station is one of the oldest in district Panchkula.Training
is being imparted to the students and NCC cadets regularly at this Aerodrum.
There
is a famous historic Yadvendra Garden at Pinjore which is oldest one from the
time of Mugal Regime. Tourists from all over the world used to visit this Garden
in all seasons Various fairs are organized in this Garden like mango fair etc.
There is tourist pllace at Morni in district Panchkula. Various tourists visit
the Morni Hill daily eapecially young.
The Panchkula district has also Westen Command Headquarter of the Army at Chandi
Mandir. The Cantonment houses several corps of the Indian Army and is of immense
strategic importance. Western command Headquarter had played key role during
1965 and 1971 wars with the Pakistan.
The Panchkula Mata Mansa Devi Tample is very famous. Fairs are organized twice
in a year during Navratra. Several Lacs of people of adjoining states of
Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, U.T. Chandigarh U.P. pay obeisance during NAVRATRA.
